Opened in 2016, the Guerrieri Academic Commons (GAC) at Salisbury University is a state-of-the-art library and academic commons. This vibrant facility has deservedly been recognized by The Princeton Review as a “Best College Library” multiple times. The GAC unites extensive library resources, including the Edward H. Nabb Center for Delmarva History and Culture, with a wide range of academic success services, such as the University Writing Center, Center for Student Achievement, TRIO Student Support Services, Office of Instructional Design and Delivery, IT Help Desk, Math Emporium, Dudley-Eshbach Faculty Center, Graduate Commons, and Sammy’s Supplies course materials store. Atop the distinctive grand staircase, designed to resemble the Maryland crab, the fourth floor Assembly Hall and patio offer spectacular views of campus and the surrounding area. A café, study rooms, classrooms, and a variety of seating spaces provide the perfect spot to meet every student’s study needs. Innovative architectural features include a green roof composed of sedum and other regional low-growing plants, as well as the 147-foot-high carillon tower – the tallest point on campus. The Brown and Church Carillon, with 48 bells and a four-octave range, is the only carillon at a university in Maryland and one of only three in the state. The bells were cast by the renowned Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London, the same founder that produced the Liberty Bell in 1752. The Guerrieri Academic Commons is named in memory of SU alumna Patricia R. Guerrieri, an avid reader who instilled a love of learning in her children, three of whom attended the campus elementary school, which was formerly located on the site that later became the GAC.
